The accretion disc in the quasar SDSS J0924+0219

چکیده
We present single-epoch multi-wavelength optical-NIR observations of the “anomalous” lensed quasar SDSS J0924+0219, made using the Magellan 6.5-metre Baade telescope at Las Campanas Observatory, Chile. The data clearly resolve the anomalous bright image pair in the lensed system, and exhibit a strong decrease in the anomalous flux ratio with decreasing wavelength. This is interpreted as a result of microlensing of a source of decreasing size in the core of the lensed quasar. We model the radius of the continuum emission region, σ, as a power-law in wavelength, σ ∝ λ . We place an upper limit on the Gaussian radius of the u′-band emission region of 3.04×1016h 70 (〈M〉/M ) cm, and constrain the size-wavelength power-law index to ζ < 1.34 at 95% confidence. These observations rule out an alpha-disc prescription for the accretion disc in SDSS J0924+0219 with 94% confidence.

Differential Microlensing of the Continuum and Broad Emission Lines in Sdss J0924+0219, the Most Anomalous Lensed Quasar
SDSS J0924+0219 is the most glaring example of a gravitational lens with anomalous flux ratios: optical broad-band photometry shows image D to be a factor of 12 fainter than expected for smooth lens potentials. We report spectroscopy showing that the anomaly is present in the broad emission line flux ratios as well. There are differences between the emission line and continuum flux ratios: the ...

متن کاملHalo Structures of Gravitational Lens Galaxies
We explore the halo structure of four gravitational lenses with well-observed, thin Einstein rings. We find that the gravitational potentials are well described by ellipsoidal density distributions in the sense that the best-fit nonellipsoidal models have parameters consistent with their ellipsoidal counterparts. We find upper limits on the standard parameters for the deviation from an ellipse ...
متن کاملQuasar emission lines as probes of orientation: implications for disc wind geometries and unification
The incidence of broad absorption lines (BALs) in quasar samples is often interpreted in the context of a geometric unification model consisting of an accretion disc and an associated outflow. We use the the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) quasar sample to test this model by examining the equivalent widths (EWs) of C iv 1550 Å, Mg ii 2800 Å, [O iii] 5007 Å and C iii] 1909 Å. We find that the em...
متن کاملMicrolensing of the Lensed Quasar Sdss0924+0219
We analyze V, I and H band HST images and two seasons of R-band monitoring data for the gravitationally lensed quasar SDSS0924+0219. We clearly see that image D is a point-source image of the quasar at the center of its host galaxy. We can easily track the host galaxy of the quasar close to image D because microlensing has provided a natural coronograph that suppresses the flux of the quasar im...
